I just finished school and I’m on the hunt for my first job. The thing is, I’m not seeing many openings for newbies in Node.js backend work. Friends keep pushing me to learn frontend and go full-stack, but I really don’t click with it. I’ve tried, but CSS and I just don’t get along. Even with component libraries, I’m all thumbs. I get the basics of React, but frontend stuff just isn’t my jam.
I’m hoping to land a job ASAP, hopefully in the next couple months. What’s my best move here?
I’ve got some skills under my belt:
- Node.js, NestJS, Express
- MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- AWS (S3, EC2)
- GraphQL, Microservices
- Kafka, Redis, Zod, and a few others

dont stress it bro, backend jobs are out there! i started as a pure backend dev too. keep building cool projects and put em on github. network like crazy - hit up meetups, join discord groups. cold email companies you like. persistence pays off. ur skills look solid, just gotta find the right fit. good luck!
