Struggling to find work as a seasoned frontend developer. Any advice?

Hey everyone,

I’m feeling pretty lost right now. I’ve been a frontend dev for about 6 years, mainly working with React and Vue. But I can’t seem to land a job anymore.

My work history is kinda messy. I job-hopped a lot when I was younger, never staying at a place for more than 18 months. I even worked for some companies in Portugal and the US.

But it’s been two years since my last proper job, and I’m really struggling. I’m doing odd jobs to make ends meet, but it’s tough.

What can I do to get back into the industry? How can I improve my chances? I want to learn from my past mistakes and become a better professional.

Any tips or guidance would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Having been in a similar situation, I can relate to your struggle. One effective strategy is to focus on building a strong portfolio showcasing your most impressive projects. This can help potential employers see your skills in action, despite gaps in your work history. Additionally, consider contributing to open-source projects or creating your own to demonstrate ongoing engagement with the field. Networking is crucial; attend industry events, join online communities, and reach out to former colleagues. Finally, be prepared to address your employment history honestly in interviews, emphasizing what you’ve learned and how you’ve grown professionally. Persistence and a proactive approach to skill development can make a significant difference in your job search.

hey max, try gig work or freelancin to add to your portfolio. check out emergin tech like nextjs or svelte. also, reach out to ex-colleagues or join local meetups for new connections. hope this helps!
