Hey everyone,
I’m a undergrad student focusing on machine learning and data science. I thought I was on the right track, but internship listings are making me doubt myself.
These job posts are asking for everything under the sun! They want full-stack skills, backend knowledge, cloud expertise, and even some dark magic thrown in. It’s like they expect interns to rebuild entire platforms from scratch.
I’ve got the basics down - SDLC, Git, some cloud stuff. But I’m clueless about real web development. Should I switch gears and dive into software engineering to land an ML/DS internship?
Am I overthinking this? Are these job posts just unrealistic, or is this really what companies want now?
If I do need to level up my coding skills, where should I start? I’m past the ‘hello world’ stage, so I need something more challenging. Has anyone tried the Amazon Junior Developer program?
I’d love to hear how others handled this situation. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks!
While it’s true that many internship postings have extensive requirements, it’s important to remember that these are often aspirational rather than strict prerequisites. Focus on honing your core ML/DS skills, as these will be your primary selling points. That said, having some basic full-stack and cloud knowledge can certainly set you apart.
Consider building a small end-to-end ML project that incorporates a simple web interface and deploys on a cloud platform. This practical experience will not only boost your resume but also give you confidence in applying your skills. Platforms like Heroku or Google Cloud offer free tiers that are perfect for such projects.
Remember, internships are learning opportunities. Companies understand that you’re still developing your skills. Showcase your passion for ML/DS and your ability to learn quickly, and you’ll find opportunities that align with your goals.
don’t stress too much, fam. those job listings are often wish lists. focus on ur core ML/DS skills and maybe pick up some basic web dev. i did a udemy course on flask + react that helped. cloud stuff comes with practice. keep grinding and you’ll find something!
hey there! i totally get ur struggle. have u considered contributing to open-source ML projects? it’s a great way to gain real-world experience and show off ur skills. plus, u might pick up some web dev along the way. what kinda ML projects interest u most?
