Hey everyone,
I’m in a bit of a pickle with our company’s WordPress site. One of our interns went a little overboard and uploaded a ton of huge images for blog posts. We’re talking about 3GB worth of pictures, each over 4MB!
Now our site is super slow and I need to fix it fast. I’m wondering:
- What’s the quickest way to find all these massive images?
- Is there a good tool to compress them without losing too much quality?
- Should I just delete the originals after compressing? Will that mess up our blog posts?
I’m pretty new to WordPress and image optimization, so any advice would be awesome. Thanks in advance for your help!
yo, check out imageoptim if ur on mac. it’s free and works like a charm for shrinking pics without messin em up. just drag n drop, compress, then reupload. might take a bit, but it’ll save ur site from crawling. good luck fixing that intern’s mess lol
As someone who’s dealt with similar issues, I recommend using a bulk optimization plugin like Smush or ShortPixel. These can retroactively compress all your existing images and automatically optimize new uploads. For finding oversized images, the Media Library’s list view lets you sort by file size. After compressing, it’s generally safe to delete originals, but double-check a few posts to ensure everything displays correctly. Remember to set a max upload size in WordPress settings to prevent future oversized uploads. This approach should significantly improve your site’s speed without compromising image quality.
hey there! have you tried using a plugin like smush or ewww image optimizer? they can automatically compress images as theyre uploaded. might save you some headache in the future! what kind of images are these btw? im curious about what your intern was working on!
