Help! My Oracle SQL Developer is stuck on Mac.
I’m using a Mac with OS X 10.5.4 and Java 1.6. The SQL Developer app worked once, but now it’s completely frozen. It just shows the spinning wheel and says “Not Responding” in Activity Monitor. I’ve tried restarting my computer, but no luck.
When I check the process, I see:
waitForEvent 15000
readData 750
lockResource 750
Has anyone else run into this issue? I’m open to suggestions for other Oracle clients that work well on Mac. Free options are great, but I’m willing to pay for a reliable commercial solution too.
I’ve looked into some IDE plugins, but haven’t found a good fix yet. Running Windows isn’t an option for me. Any ideas would be much appreciated!
yo sam, sry to hear bout ur troubles. have u checked ur java version? sometimes that can mess things up. another option is TablePlus - its not free but its slick af on macs. i use it for oracle stuff and its never let me down. worth a look maybe?
hey there! have u tried Dbeaver? its pretty cool and works on macs. i had similar issues with sql developer and switched. its free too! maybe give it a shot? what kinda queries r u working on? always curious to hear what other devs are up to
I’ve encountered similar issues with SQL Developer on Mac. One solution that worked for me was using Aqua Data Studio. It’s a robust, cross-platform database management tool that supports Oracle and many other databases. While it’s not free, it offers a trial period, and I found its performance and stability on Mac to be superior to SQL Developer. The interface is intuitive, and it handles large datasets efficiently. If you’re working on complex queries or need advanced features, Aqua Data Studio might be worth considering. It’s been my go-to tool for Oracle development on Mac for the past year, and I’ve had no regrets switching.
