New Logix-Style Programming Environment for Micro800 Controllers

Has anyone heard rumors about updated programming software for Micro800 PLCs?

I’ve been utilizing Connected Components Workbench for my Micro850 projects while transitioning from older MicroLogix units. While CCW generally functions adequately, numerous users frequently express frustrations with various bugs and feature limitations.

Recently, my supplier hinted on two occasions that Allen-Bradley is in the process of creating new programming software for the Micro800 series that will operate more like Studio 5000. They mentioned that it would feature a user interface and capabilities parallel to the standard Logix platform.

I’m particularly interested to know if this new software will remain free like CCW or if it will require licenses similar to other Rockwell software solutions. Unfortunately, my supplier could not provide specific information regarding pricing or launch timelines.

Rockwell sometimes discusses future offerings ahead of time, but actual product releases can take a significant duration. Has anyone else encountered similar updates from their suppliers or even Rockwell itself? I’m curious if this information is based on speculation or if there’s something solid in the pipeline.

I attended a Rockwell technical seminar last month where this topic came up during the Q&A session. The presenter acknowledged ongoing development work for Micro800 programming tools but remained deliberately vague about specifics. From what I gathered, they are indeed working on bridging the gap between CCW and Studio 5000 functionality, particularly around debugging capabilities and instruction sets. The licensing question is crucial since many smaller operations rely on CCW being free. My experience suggests Rockwell typically announces major software releases 6-12 months before availability, so if suppliers are starting to mention it, we might see something concrete by next year. I would recommend staying with your current setup until official announcements surface.

wait, thats intresting! what kind of bugs are you seeing with CCW specifically? im still on micrologix myself but been considering the jump to micro850s. does your supplier have any inside connections with rockwell or are they just speculating based on customer feedback?

honestly surprised this hasnt leaked more if its real. rockwell usually keeps things pretty tight but theres always someone who talks. ive heard similar whispers from a distributor buddy but nothing concrete yet. pricing will definetly be the make or break factor - if they start charging for micro800 programming that could push alot of people toward other platforms
