New Logix-style Programming Environment for Micro800 Controllers

Hey everyone! I’ve been using CCW for programming my Micro850 controllers for a while now. It works pretty well for what I need, though I know some people have issues with bugs and limitations. I’ve been upgrading some older ML1000 and ML1100 units to the newer Micro800 series.

My distributor mentioned something interesting recently. They said Rockwell is working on new programming software for the Micro800 family that will work more like Studio 5000. The interface and instruction set would be closer to standard Logix programming instead of the current CCW environment.

I’m curious if this new software will still be free like CCW or if it will need a paid license like their other development tools. My rep wasn’t sure about pricing or timeline, just that it’s something they’re developing.

Has anyone else heard rumors about this new programming environment? Would love to know if other suppliers are talking about it too.

honestly, it’d be awesome if they made it more like studio 5000! ccw gets frustrating when you’re used to logix programming. i doubt it’ll stay free tho - rockwell loves their licensing fees. it’ll prob end up costing as much as the microcontrollers themselves lol

Went to a Rockwell tech seminar last month and this came up during Q&A. The presenter confirmed they’re working on a Logix-based environment for Micro800 controllers, but wouldn’t give release dates. Sounds like they’re trying to fix the steep learning curve people complain about when jumping between CCW and Studio 5000. The new platform would standardize instruction sets and programming across all their controllers. For pricing, knowing Rockwell, they’ll probably give away a basic version free and charge for advanced features or multi-controller licenses. Smart move - keeps them competitive in the small controller market while making money on bigger projects.

that’s really interesting! haven’t heard anything from my local rep yet, but now i’m curious too. think they’ll phase out CCW completely or run both systems side by side? wonder if the timing’s related to competition from other PLC manufacturers…
