Hey everyone, I’ve been using CCW for my Micro800 projects for a while now. Recently got a Micro850 to replace some older ML1100 units and it’s been working great. My local distributor mentioned something interesting though.
Apparently Rockwell is developing a new programming platform for the Micro800 series that will work more like Studio 5000. Right now CCW has that Logix theme option but this sounds like it would be a completely different software package.
What I’m curious about is whether this new tool will need a paid license or stay free like the current CCW software. My distributor wasn’t sure about the timeline either, could be anywhere from a few months to a couple of years.
Anyone else heard rumors about this new programming environment? Would be great to get the full Logix experience on the smaller controllers.
totally feel ya! i’m just as excited about the idea of a more unified platform. the advanced instructions would really help streamline projects, but who knows what they’ll end up doing. let’s hope it’s not all just hype!
Haven’t seen any official word from Rockwell about a new Studio 5000-style environment for Micro800 controllers. Knowing how they handle software licensing, I’d bet any advanced programming platform would cost money - just like Studio 5000. CCW stays free because it’s their entry-level tool, so charging for premium features makes sense with their tiered approach. I’ve worked with different Rockwell platforms, and major software releases take forever - lots of development and beta testing. If this project’s real, your distributor’s timeline sounds about right for building a whole new programming environment from scratch. I’d stick to watching Rockwell’s official channels instead of trusting distributor rumors.
that’s interesting! what limitations are you hitting with CCW that make you want Studio 5000’s environment? what specific features are you missing that would make switching worthwhile for Micro800 work?
