Obsidian Lacks a Robust Integrated Database Capability

I’m evaluating a transition to Obsidian; however, its limited database feature is a significant drawback. In Notion, I’ve developed several advanced databases, but in Obsidian, I can only produce a basic table view. Although there are plugins aimed at enhancing this functionality, they fall short of meeting my expectations. A fully integrated and sophisticated database system built directly into Obsidian would considerably improve its utility.

The inherent challenge lies in adapting to a system that was primarily designed for linking notes rather than managing databases. In my experience, implementing the Dataview plugin has been a practical workaround to simulate dynamic queries and dashboards. Although this solution does not reach the sophistication of native database platforms like Notion, it provides enough functionality for many users. The need for some technical setup may be a barrier initially, but it also offers extensive customization opportunities that may be enhanced in future iterations of available plugins.

i’ve tinkered w/dataview and while it’s not as polished as notion, it does the trick for me most times. obsidian definitely needs a more robust databse integration without all the extra setup steps. fingers crossed for future updates!

hey, i been trying some plugin combins to improvise obsidians db capa, but it still feels patchy. anyone else got cool workaround or custom hacks in action? curious to hear more experince!
