Recommendations for rulebook design software for card games

Hey everyone! I’m creating a trading card game for my board game design class. I’ve got the basic rules down in Word, but now I’m looking for something better to make the final version. I want to create a neat rulebook that can be folded or made into a small booklet. It needs to fit in a regular TCG card box.

Does anyone know of any good software for this? I’m after something that can help me layout the rules nicely and maybe add some graphics. It would be great if it could handle different page sizes too.

I’ve seen some cool examples of compact rulebooks for other card games, and I’m hoping to create something similar. Any suggestions would be super helpful! Thanks in advance for your ideas.

have you thought about scribus? its free and open-source, great for making rulebooks. i used it for my last project and was pretty impressed. you can do custom page sizes, add graphics, and make booklets. might be worth checking out! what kind of tcg are you making btw?

For designing a compact rulebook for your trading card game, I’d highly recommend Adobe InDesign. It’s the industry standard for professional layout design and offers unparalleled control over typography, graphics, and page layout. InDesign excels at handling different page sizes and can easily create booklet-style layouts that fold neatly.

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, Affinity Publisher is an excellent alternative. It provides similar functionality to InDesign at a fraction of the cost and doesn’t require a subscription. Both software options allow you to create polished, professional-looking rulebooks that will fit perfectly in a TCG card box.

Remember to keep your layout clean and organized, use clear headings, and incorporate visual elements sparingly to enhance understanding without cluttering the pages. Good luck with your project!
