During an interview, despite 10 years in frontend development, I was asked to design an Indian flag and illustrate the Ashoka Chakra using CSS. Does this reflect outdated interviewing?
My experience with similar technical interviews has shown that such questions, while seemingly trivial, actually serve to evaluate a candidate’s basic knowledge of CSS and its creative potential. It may appear outdated because it tests fundamental understanding rather than modern frameworks and advanced techniques. However, these questions often highlight a developer’s ability to work with constraints and pay attention to detail. In my case, this approach helped demonstrate my proficiency in CSS fundamentals while also offering an opportunity to showcase problem-solving skills under time pressure.
