Senior frontend interview challenges

Hey everyone, I’m feeling a bit frustrated about frontend dev interviews. I’m at the medior/senior level, and I’m wondering if it’s really necessary to memorize complex execution orders for weird functions. Do interviewers expect us to write similar code in real projects?

I’ve been asked questions that seem so far removed from day-to-day work. It’s making me doubt if I’m missing something important. Are these types of questions common in your experience?

I’d love to hear from devs with 10+ years of experience. What’s your take on these tricky interview questions? Are they actually useful for assessing skills? Or are they just unnecessarily complicated?

Thanks in advance for any insights you can share. I’m trying to understand if I need to change my approach to interviews or if this is just a frustrating trend in the industry.

As someone who’s been in the frontend trenches for over a decade, I can relate to your frustration. These convoluted interview questions often feel like academic exercises rather than practical assessments. In my experience, they’re more about testing problem-solving skills and how you approach complex scenarios under pressure.

That said, I’ve found that companies worth working for tend to focus on real-world scenarios and coding challenges that mirror actual work. They’re interested in your ability to architect solutions, write clean, maintainable code, and explain your thought process.

If you’re consistently encountering these puzzler-type questions, it might be worth reevaluating the companies you’re applying to. Look for those that value practical skills over theoretical knowledge. Remember, a good interview is a two-way street – it’s also your chance to assess if the company’s values align with your own.

yeah, i feel u. some of these weird q’s do make u lose focus. but good companies prefer real-skill demonstration. focus on real-world prjcts cuz that’s where u really shine over reciting absurd edge cases

hmm, interesting conundrum! have u considered asking the interviewers about their reasoning behind these puzzles? maybe there’s a hidden method to the madness? wonder if other devs have found creative ways to tackle these brain-teasers. what’s ur strategy for prep?
