Hey everyone! I’m a PHP dev diving into Flex/Flash. I’ve heard ColdFusion is popular for Flash backends but I’m not sure if it’s worth switching. My sites will only use Flash for small parts not the whole thing.
I’m wondering:
- How does PHP compare to ColdFusion for Flash/Flex work?
- Will I miss out on important stuff if I stick with PHP?
- Is ColdFusion really that much better for this?
I don’t want to switch if I don’t have to. Any advice from folks who’ve used both? Thanks!
hey max, php works good for small flash parts, coldfusion ain’t really necessary unless u specificly need its features. stick with php if u know it well and just double-check ur setup handles amf correctly. switching is only needed if u crav coldfusion’s perks.
hiya max! curious bout ur project scope? have u thought of node.js for flash/flex? what features attract u to coldfusion? php works fine if that covers ur needs. keen to know more, whatcha planning next?
While ColdFusion has its merits for Flash/Flex backends, switching from PHP might not be necessary in your case. PHP is capable of handling small Flash components effectively, especially with proper AMF setup. The decision largely depends on your specific project requirements and long-term goals.
Consider evaluating the actual benefits ColdFusion would bring to your workflow. If PHP meets your current needs and you’re comfortable with it, staying put could save time and resources. However, if you anticipate scaling up Flash usage or require specific ColdFusion features, it might be worth exploring.
Ultimately, the choice between PHP and ColdFusion should align with your project scope, team expertise, and future plans. Weigh the pros and cons carefully before making a switch.
