When is .NET Framework 4.8 expected to be phased out?

I developed a business application using WinForms and .NET Framework 4.8, and I’m currently debating whether it should be migrated to the latest .NET Core version.

  • Is there a clear timeline for when .NET Framework 4.8 might become outdated?
  • Has Microsoft released any official roadmap regarding its deprecation?

I would appreciate some insights on the longevity of .NET Framework 4.8 and advice on potential migration strategies.

The .NET Framework 4.8 remains supported by Microsoft without a set end date, but development is clearly shifting focus towards .NET Core and .NET 5+ architectures. In practice, this means that business-critical applications continue to work normally with .NET Framework 4.8, although new feature implementations have greater emphasis on the latest platforms. In similar projects, I have found that modernizing applications may offer benefits such as enhanced performance and cross-platform capabilities. However, the migration effort should be carefully evaluated against current business needs and future expansion goals.

hey, im wondering if keeping with 4.8 is a no-brainer or if switching to .net core could bring some cool gainz? has anyone faced hiccups during migrration, or found unexpected benefits? curious to hear some real-world stories.

i believe 4.8 will stick around for a while, no drop date announced. microsoft is shifting focus to .net core but if ur app is stable, migrration isnt urgent unless u want new features.
