Which free AI coding assistant is best for a frontend developer?

Hey everyone! I’m a frontend dev and I’m totally lost with all these AI coding tools out there. There’s so many like Windsurf, Cursor, Roocode, Cline, Copilot, Claude Code, Aider, V0, and Bolt. I can’t figure out which one would be the best for my frontend work. And I’m looking for something that’s free too. Has anyone tried these? What would you recommend for someone doing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript stuff? I’d love to hear about your experiences or if you know of any other good options I haven’t mentioned. Thanks for any help!

hey there! have you checked out tabnine? it’s pretty cool for frontend stuff and totally free. i use it for my html/css/js projects and it’s been a game-changer. what kind of features are you looking for in an ai assistant? maybe we can brainstorm some other options too!

As a frontend developer myself, I’ve experimented with several AI coding assistants. From my experience, GitHub Copilot stands out for frontend work, even in its free tier. It integrates seamlessly with popular editors and excels at suggesting relevant HTML, CSS, and JavaScript snippets. While not entirely free, its basic version offers substantial value. For a completely free option, I’d recommend Tabnine. It’s quite good at understanding context in frontend code and provides helpful autocompletions. It’s less powerful than Copilot but still significantly boosts productivity. Another solid choice is Kite, which offers a free plan with strong JavaScript support. It’s particularly useful for autocompleting function calls and providing relevant documentation. Ultimately, the ‘best’ tool depends on your specific needs and workflow. I’d suggest trying a few to see which fits you best.

i’ve been using cursor lately and its pretty awesome for frontend stuff. its free and has good suggestions for html/css/js. the ai chat feature is handy too when you’re stuck. not perfect but def worth trying out imho. saved me tons of time already!
