Hey everyone, I’m new to PCB manufacturing and I’m trying to figure out the software side of things. I want to machine my own PCBs at home, but I’m not sure what programs I need to get started. Can anyone recommend some good software for designing PCB layouts and then converting them into G-code for my CNC machine? I’m looking for something beginner-friendly if possible. Also, are there any free options out there, or do I need to invest in paid software? Thanks in advance for any advice!
hey there! have u considered trying KiCad for PCB design? it’s free and pretty beginner-friendly. for G-code, FlatCAM is a good option. both are open-source and work well together. whats your experience with CNC machines? any specific projects you’re working on? I’d love to hear more about what youre planning!
For PCB machining and G-code generation, you’ll need two main types of software. First, a PCB design tool like KiCad is essential. It’s free, open-source, and great for beginners. You can create your PCB layouts there and export them in the necessary formats. Once you have your design, you’ll need software to convert it into G-code for your CNC machine. FlatCAM is a solid choice for this. It’s also free and works well with designs from KiCad. These two programs should cover your basic needs without any cost. As you progress, you might want to explore paid options like Eagle for more advanced features, but for starting out, KiCad and FlatCAM are more than sufficient. Remember to check out some online tutorials to get familiar with the software workflow.
yo, check out KiCad for PCB design! it’s free and pretty simple to use. for G-code, FlatCAM is awesome. both work great together and won’t cost ya anything. have u tried any other software before? what kind of PCBs are u trying to make? let me know if u need any tips!
