I’ve observed that only a single book database platform seems to display the total word count for each book, even though it provides valuable insight. It’s reminiscent of movie websites that always mention the runtime in minutes. Considering that modern software can quickly and accurately calculate word totals, it would appear to be a simple feature to introduce. I’m curious why more digital book repositories haven’t adopted this beneficial metric for their listings. Any thoughts on this?
The incidence of word counts on book pages is likely influenced by the sources of metadata and the priorities set by each platform. In my experience, book databases may focus on more readily available and critical details such as reviews and genre tags instead of word counts, which could be considered a secondary metric. Additionally, some systems may not include word counts due to inconsistent formats among digital texts, leading to inaccuracies. Integrating such a feature might require additional processing that isn’t deemed essential compared to other display priorities, thus limiting its implementation.
i think its mostly about priorities. while tech can do it, book sites focus on reviews and ratings. also, diverse formats can make word counts unreliable sometimes so not every site bothered to add this feature.
hey there, i kinda wonder if word counts are skipped due to reliability issues or user relevnce. maybe it’s not seen as a sales booster compared to reviews. what do u reckon could change that?
